Broker's Comments
The seadog was introduced in 1964 was an instant sucess. 140 were built up to 1974 and most of them are still on the water. The Seadog Owners association boasts 126 owners – 126 out of 140, now there’s proper loyalty for you!
Having photographed this yacht I can begin to understand why most of them are still sailing – strong looking, sturdy, and built like the proverbial brick outhouse, she inspires a fair amount of confidence.
Such a strongly built seaboat ain’t going to win the Round the Island, but her triple keels and shoal draft mean you can dry out - “take the ground” - the modern brochures would say, so she can venture where the fin-keelers daren’t even think about.
She was designed as a motor sailor but she’s reputed to sail pretty well, and with main, genoa and mizzen her 510 sq ft rig is both powerful and flexible. Like all ketches if it comes on to blow you can crack along quite happily under genoa and mizzen. The original Perkins 4018 has only run 70 hours since reconditioning, and at 36 hp on a 30 foot yacht you can soon get home if the wind drops!
